Brainspotting Therapy

Tapping into your brain’s natural healing capacity | Ontario-wide virtual therapy, based in Hamilton

What is Brainspotting?

An interesting fact: where you look affects how you feel (we know, it’s weird!). Sometimes our mind-body system holds onto emotional experiences in ways that talking alone can’t fully reach. Brainspotting uses your visual field to help access and process these deeper layers, supporting your brain and body to do what they’re naturally wired to do: integrate and heal.

It’s a focused, attuned process that follows your system’s natural process rather than forcing anything forward.

What this looks like in a session:

After collaborating to decide on the topic or emotional experience that you want to process, your therapist will help you find a specific point in your field of vision that connects with what you’re feeling (E.g. a feeling of mild tension that comes up when you want to set a boundary in your life). As you stay with that spot, your system begins to process in its own way: sometimes with words, and sometimes with a quiet attentiveness to the thread of memories, mental images, or body sensations that naturally unfold. We stay present to what emerges, without judgment, allowing dots to connect and shifts to happen at a pace that feels manageable and respectful of your system.

Brainspotting might be right for you if…

You feel stuck in emotional experiences that don’t fully shift through talking alone

You notice your body holding onto stress, tension, or past experiences

You find it hard to put your experiences into words, but know something is there

You’re open to a less structured, more internally guided therapeutic process

You prefer not to force or over-analyze your experiences

You want to practice staying with difficult emotions in a way that feels contained
